UNAUTHORISED TRANSFERS .

Auckland -Land Board's approval of unauthorised transfers of;their holdings was illustrated in two case's which occiipied the attention of the board, on Friday. i'lij lone instance a lessee applied to ti'ftflsfgr, the consideration asked being £5520._ The board at its previous meeting had refused the transfer 'as ■£{ielconsideratipri was deemed excessive arid ; the proposed, tcansferee was not landless. r '-■ The solicitors in the - case niade fresh representations to the board at this meeting stating that the consideration was ■fictitious, being based on " laud agents' exchange values," that the correct value of the Albany land was £2840, and that of; the property offered in exchange was £1680. ' .. • V Members of the board expressed amazement? at the "land agents' exchange values." It was stated that the Crdwn tenant had paid £125 commission and had .entered into an agreement to ex-, change, without waiting for the board's consent. j - ; 'Thef, commissioner,•-/Mr, ;B, P. 'Greville, stated-that', not only was. the board's coiu sent required, but the case had to be laid before' the Minister, and that lessees who took the board's consent.for granted had only themselves to blame if they found themselves involved in legal and financial difficulties* _ Consideration was deferred pending a full inquiry into the transaction. ..In the second case, according fo the Crown lands ranger's report, ,it was found that for the last two ye«ro the lessee had sublet the land with'out the consent of the board, and, in addition, had sold ar house on the section for removal, this having been done since the application for transfer bad been made, and without.the consent of the. board. In the cireunistances the board refused th« transfer and forfeited "the lessee's interest in the land.-
