DELEGATE RESIGNS.

LAWN TENNIS DISPUTE, WAIKATO AFFILIATION. [BT TELEGBAPH.—OWN CORBESFGNIX&NT.] CHKISTQHURCH, Tuesday. At a meeting of the Management Committee of tho Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association, Professor F. "P. Wilson, of Wellington, ons of the Canterbury Association's delegates to the New Zealand Association, wrote resigning his office in consequence of the censure he received in voting in opposition to th e wishes of the Canterbury Association on the question of affiliation of the Waikato Association. Professor Wilson said that in his acceptance of the position he held himself free to vote contrary to instructions where the interests of tennis in New Zealand were concerned. In the present case, from his own knowledge of the circumstances, he supported the application bv Waikato tor affiliation. Had Canterbury been directly concerned, as would probably be the case when South Canterbury organised he would have voted in accordance with instructions. Under the circumstances seeing, the Canterbury Association had made tho vote of censure public, it would be better for the association to accept his resignation. The president said no instructions had ."en issued to Professor Wilson butsimply an intimation of what the Canterbury Association's wishes were. The secretary said the letter sent to Professor Wilson was sn e expressing regret that he had thought fit to support Waikato's application after he received definite opinion from the Canterbury Association. The president said Professor Wilson, if he thought the Canterbury Association was wrong, should have communicated beforehand and explained the position. As a general rule the delegates were allowed a free hand. It was only on occasions that special instructions or recommendations were sent Mr. Taylor said he was opposed to the principle of instructing delebut in the present case he thought Professor Wilson s action was wrong. The resignation was accepted with regret.
