CROQUET.

THE CARLTON CLUB. The twelfth annual meetine cf the Carlton Croquet Club was held and was presided over by Mrs. W. Perry, president of the club. The report showed that the club had made good progress in respect to membership, playing strength, and finance. After reducing its liabilities by £30. there was a balance of assets over liabilities amounting to £135. Hie roll of members, which now numbered 60. was steadily increasing. The ideal condition of the croquet lawns during the season was the subject of much favourable comment from visiting players in the association's recent tournament, and the opinion was generally voiced that better playing grounds were not available in the Dominion. In the inter-club competitions both the A and B sections of players finished well to the front. The election of officers resulted:—President. Mrs. W. Perry; vice-presidents, Mesdames Cucksey and Warin; secretary, Mrs. Warin; treasurer, Mrs. Wilkie-Moodie; general committee. Mesdames Hamilton. H. Goodman and Wilson, and Mr. R. Lawrence; match committee. Mesdames Hamilton and Perry, and Mr. R. Lawrence; ground committee, Mesdames Laurie, Wilson, and Perry; delegates to tho Auckland Croquet Association, Mr. R. Lawrence and Mesdames Perry and Warin; hon. auditor. Mr. W. Perry. The j president, in presenting the prizes to the winners of the club's competitions during the season, referred to the healthy sportin<r rivalry existing between tho members, and expressed her belief in the value of sports and games for women. The following were the winners of the respective matches;— Championship singles: Mrs. W. Laurie: runner-up, Mrs. Middleton. Handicap singles (A grade): Mrs. Newsham. Championship doubles: Mrs. W. Laurie and Mrs. Hamilton. Handicap doubles: Mesdames Allsop and Kirk. Merry-go-round: Mrs. Newsham; runners-up. Mesdames Allsop and Williams. Handicap singles,(B grace): Mrs. Gould. Consolation: Mrs. Wilkie-Moodie.
