ESCAPE FROM A HOME.
TWO BOYS DISAPPEAR. CHARGEp WITH THEFTS. Two boys who had been apprehended by. the police about a fortnight ago in connection with thefts on the waterfront, and who were to ,have appeared in the Court on Saturday, escaped from the Mount Albert Probation Home, where they had been placed for safe-keeping, on hriday night, clad only in their pyjamas. The elder of the two is stated to have absconded from an industrial home about two months ago. Until he was ar?ested he had roamed about the waterfront from St. Hejers Bay to" Ponsonby, and is said to have been responsib'e for a long series of thefts and other offences—in some of which the other boy was also concerned— on the waterfront. The ringleader had for a long time evaded all attempts by the police to capture him. He had no home, and apparently never slept in the same place twice. The sight of. a constable in uniform was always the for his rapid departure. Constables Clifford and Allen, who had been investigating complaints from ; boat-owners and others, finally captured the boys about a fortnight ago on the Ponsonby Wharf-' The constables were in plain clothes, and the boys were cornered on the wharf. There are about 25/, charges against the elderiboy. f
