PENSION INCOME LIMIT.
SUGGESTED ABOLITION.
EFFORT IN THE COMMONS.
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 5.40 p.m.) LONTK3N, May 11. Mr. Arthur Henderson moved the repeal of the income limit provisions in the Old Age Pensions Act in the House of Commons to-day, in order that thrifty pensioners might not be subjected to a .poverty test. He admitted that this would involve an additional expenditure of £13,000,000 a year.
' Mr. Henderson succeeded in carrying the closure against the Government, but with the aid of the Coalition Whips an amendment, declaring the reform inopportune in the present state of the finances, •.was carried.
