WHANGAREI'S FINANCES.
BOOKS NOT UP TO DATE. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WHANGAKEI, Thursday. The investigation and adjustment of the borough finances is the chief task immediately confronting the newly-elected council. At the first formal meeting, held last night, a letter was read from the AuditorGeneral, in which he stated that his audit inspector had reported irregularities. He was considering his decision as to the course to take, and in the meantime he required immediate steps to be taken to bring the books up to date, so that the true position could be established. A motion Wcis carried that a competent accountant be at once employed fo assist the acting town clerk in bringing the books up to date as required by the Auditor-General.
