SEASON OPENS ON SATURDAY. The first grade competition under the Auckland Rugby Football League will commence on Saturday. Seven teams have been entered, the only alteration from last season being that the Grafton senior team has dropped out. its place being taken bv a fire br.gade team. All the clubs are said to be stronger than they were last year, and an exceedingly keen contest for the club premiership is anticipated. Arrangements for Saturday's matches are as follow:—City v. The executive of the Auckland Football Association met in the- Sports Club. Mr D A Williams presided. H.M.S. Philomel's Club s application for affiliation and registration was accepted as a senior club An application for the registration of a second senior club by the Y.M.C.A. Old Boys wa, granted. The North Shore Methodists were granted permission to make ground charges on the same scale as other clubs owning grounds. The proposed tour of New Zealand by New South Wales was brought forward by a communication from the New Zealand Council, which asked for a guarantee of £300. A sub-committee was appointed to consider the question and report to the executive. Mr. S. H. Ferguson, of the Young Citizens' League. Freeman's Bay was granted registration of two boys' teams' It was decided that the Everton Club be entered in the second grade this season. An application from the Huntly Club for inclusion in the senior competitions was granted. In the senior competition the draw will be made next Tuesday. A schools competition will be held this season. At present teams have entered from St. Heliers Bay, Belmont and Mount. Eden. It was stated there is still need for additional roforees. and past players willing to join a referees' association ar« requested to communicate with the honorary secretary and attend the next meeting.
