MOUNT EDEN BOROUGH.
Sir, —I have to thank you for your report of the meeting held on Tuesday evening, but would esteem it a favour if you will kindly allow me to correct some figurea and a statement which will be misunderstood. I stated that the population of Mount Eden at census 1906 was 6888, at census 1916 12,551, and that I anticipated the present census would run into at least 15,000; so that in 15 years the population had " more than doubled " it-self, not " nearly doubled '" as per the report. One statement likely to be misunderstood is that the " borough boasts of some of the finest roads in the Dominion." I added " That it was the aim and object of the present council to bring all thfl roads that are at present in an unsatisfactory state to the same high standard." The inclusion of the last sentence will make the position clear, and is the statement I made at the meeting. John- W. Shackelford,
Mayor Mount Eden,
