AUCKLAND WEEKLY NEWS.
TO-DAY'S EDITION.
An adventurous expedition was recently carried out in the Tutoko district, Otago, under the leadership of Mr. Samuel Turner, F.R.G.S., of Wellington, and most difficult exploration work was done by the party. In connection with the trip a remarkably fine collection of views of this mountain region was taken, and these are reproduced on a double-page in today's issue of the Auckland Weekly Nkws, making a most picturesque record of a memorable journey. Some splendid views connected with the Governor-Gerw eral's recent visit to the South Island are reproduced, depicting scenes of welcome at Nelson, Blenheim, and Motueka, Deepsea fishing in the Bay of Plenty forms the subject of two interesting plates.' A page is devoted to the winners at the: recent musical and elocutionary competitions at Napier. The growing of tobacco ; on the poor gumlands at Riverhead is evidenced by two views of a very fine crop. In connection with the Ongaroto tragedy, two views are published, including one showing a diver going down into the Waikato River to search for the body of Patrick Richard Elliott, who is alleged to have been murdered. Other illustrations are: —The fateful Kitbag : A reconstruction of an incident lately disclosed connected with von Kluck's early plans of attack in the war ; a comprehensive panorama of Wanganui; a recent carnival held on the Waikanae Beach, Gisborne ; a ladies' rowing race at Tolaga Bay ; ships with a history ; and the Prime Minister at work in his office at Wellington.
