THE AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION

The annual meeting of the Auckland I Association was held last evening. I Hi G. North Shore the second and fourth, and Wesley College tbe fifth. The Challenge Cup competitions resulted in Training College winning the junior cup and Wesley College and Mount Eden tying for the Edgar Morgan Cup. The last two-mentioned teams therefore hold th« cup for six months each- Interest in school hockey was very keen. Grafton won the A grade and Edendale the B Grade. The sports tournament held at Remuera on June 3, was most successful. Mount Eden winning the Trevor Davis Cup and the GTafton primary school tho cup presented by the association. Country week marked a, revival in the White Horse Cup competition, the trophy being won by Whangarei. The committee recommended that all possible attention be given to the fostering of country hockey. Keen interest centred in the challenge shield matches, the Auckland representatives defeating Nelson, Wanganui, Manawatu, Hawke's Bay, Canterbury, and Wellington. Matches were also played against, Thames and Waikato teams. It was recommended that the incoming committee should consider seriously the question . of approaching the New Zealand Association j on_ the following points in connection with shield matches: 'Whether the number of re- i presentative matches in one season should be restricted; whether the holders of the challenge shield should be allowed to travel, and whether aU associations challenging should meet in one town and compete for the shield at a provincial tournament to be held during a particular week. Renrrie. A. Murdoch; hon. secretary, Mr. A. Playle; assistant hon. secretary, ilr. P. C. Munro; hon. treasurer, Mr. H. L. Turnbull; hon. auditors, Messrs. G. Dinnison, A. C. Johns; delegates to tho New Zealand Hockey Association. Messrs. M. Ballin and R. A. Parton ; Executive Committee, Messrs. L. C. Kent, R. E. Fawcett. H. B. Speight. L. Ellison, A: Kankin. D. Alexander, R. L. England, B. Cooper. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Eliot R. Davis, who retired after occupying tho position of president for seven years. Mr. Davis was aleo made a life, member.
