SIR ROBERT STOUT.

PRISON BOARD'S TRIBUTE. [BT TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATIOX.] CHRISTCHTJBCH. Wedn«sd*y. The Prisons Board to-day passed the. following motion:—" On the eve of the departure of Sir Robert Ste-ut, Chief Justice, on leave of absence for 12 months, the members of the Prisons Board of the Dominion, of which he has been president since its inception 10 years ago, take the opportunity of expressing their very warm appreciation of the great service he has rendered to the Dominion in the position referred to. The duties-of the board require the exercise of much care and di«-. crimination and in dealing with the unfor- m " tunate section of the people whose liberty •• is to a large extent under their control the members of the board are indebted to their president for the wisdom, sym- _ pathy and scrupulous fairness whi«t have invariably characterised / his guidance in their consideration of the many difficult cases on which they have had to adjudicate. They trust their distinguished colleague will return to New Zealand at the. close of his leave of absence much benefited in health and that they will haTe the pleasure of a further lengthy term of association with him in the important work which they are engaged upon."
