OBITUARY.
MR. F. P. BURGESS. The news of the death at Thursday Island of Mr. F. P. Burgess, of the staff of Macky, Logan, Caldwell, Ltd., has been received by cablegram by his reia fives in Auckland. Mr. Burgess, who was the youngest son of the late Captain I. Burgess, of Devonport, had been absent since June iast on a to China and Japan, and was returning to Auckland when he was attacked by typhoid fever and taken ashore at Thursday Island, where he died on Tuesday. Mr. Burgess, who was 49 years of age, had been in the employ of Messrs. Macky, Logan, Caldwell for 35 years, having joined the staff on completing his educa° tion at the Auckland Grammar School. In his younger days he was a prominent rower and footballer. He leaves a widow, who was accompanying him on his visit to the Far East, and three sons and a daughter.
