AUCKLAND EDUCATION BOARD
The Auckland Education Board m*t yesterday, the chairman, Mr. E C. Banks, presiding over a full attendance of members. It was resolved to forward a letter of sympathy to the relatives of the lat& Mr. F. Lawry, a former member of the board. A welcome was extended to the senicv inspector, Mr. C. W. Garrard, who, in reply, said he realised the difficulty of fulfilling a position rendered vacant by the death of such a respected and capable man as the late Mr. E. K. Mulgan. The department notified an additional grant of £190 for improvements to and enlargement of, the building at Matangi purchased by the board as a residence for the teachei. The resignation of Mrs. Grice. formerly Miss P. Baylise, who has been in charge of the school for backward childrerl, in Myers Park, was received, and the ooard decided to write and thank her for her valuable services. The advisory inspector reported that the education reserve near the foot of Victoria Avenue was unsuitable for school purposes.^
