NORTH SHORE BEACH PATROL 1 i LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY'S MEN, ' The beach patrol system, recently In- " augurated, is now in full operation on the Vauxhall, Cheltenham, and wharf beaches , at Devonport. The arrangement are so complete that bathers at the Devonport • beaches may rest assured that they will ' be carefully -watched by the patrols while bathing there. Demonstrations ,of lifesaving -will be given on the Cheltenham beach, near the tea kiosk at noon on ' January 1. 1 p.m. on January 2, and 1.30 ; p-rn. on January 3. The last-named will be the most spectacular held by the so- ' ciety this season. ' The Royal Life Saving Society, which is responsible for the" patrols, was founded in 1891, the inception of the so- . aety being due to a desire that some practical method of rescuing persons from i drown 3 B S , should be devised. S ri P of a drowning person were adopted, and they are still ' in use to-day, as.they have been found to be the most practical and safest methods for swimmers.
