POSSESSION OF FIUME.
D'ANNUNZI O'S DEFIANCE. RAPALLO TREATY OPPOSED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Retd. S.iO p.m.) ROME, Dec. 23. D'Annunzio has replied that the Government's ultimatum to evacuate Fiume, Ft-ating that he is determined to oppose the execution of the R-apallo Treaty. General Caviglia, commander of the Italian forces in the vicinity, has now given the poet's "legionaries 48 hours to quit Fiume. The legionaries at Veglia fired shots at an Italian destroyer. Several coups by I)'Annunzio's forces are reported from the Adriatic Islands. Regulars opposed the legionaries at Zara, taking a number prisoner. STRICT BLOCKADE ORDERED. TOWN NOW ISOLATED. Renter. ROME. Dec. 22. D'Annunzio has replied to General Caviglia's ultimatum, stating that he does not recognise the Treaty of Rapallo, arid intends to resist it. General Caviglia has therefore ordered a strict land and sea blockade of Fiume, which he has absolutely isolated.
