KAITUNA RIVER DISTRICT.

Thursday. , A meeting of the committee appointed to forward the establishment of the Kaitana River District was held at Te'Puke, Mr. Montgomery presiding. The Assistant-Under-Secretary for the Department of Internal Affairs wrote forward ng the report of the commission appointed to inquire into the proposed constitution of the river district. He stated it was Deposed to constitute the district as asked' * or - He also stated: "With reference to the recommendation of the commission that the River Board be so constituted as to take over the functions of I Te Puke and Te Tumu Drainage Boards, I have to state that, while a muitiplicity of controlling local authorities, such as there will be in this case, is not desirable, there is no authority under the existir- law whereby this recommendation can be given effect to." It was unanimously agreed that the following suggestions be made to the Departj ment of Internal Affairs: —" That the I date of the constitution of the district be j fixed as from February 1, 1921. That | the number of trustees be nine. That Mr !H. W. Earp be returning officer. That ; the date of the election be Februarv 11. j That polling-booths bo at Papamod. | Paengaroa, and Te Puke. That the first the board be held on Februarv 18. It Was oecided tnat the district westwaid of the Kaituna River should select i five candidates, and the district eastward 1 the Kaituna River four candidates, and that the whole district be asked to supj port these nine candidates at the election.
