SCHOOL DENTAL SCHEME.

A HOSPITAL BOARD'S VIEW. [bt telegraph.—press association.] 1 WELLINGTON. Wednesday. X The Wellington Hospital Board to-day » discussed a letter from the Otago Board _ asking it to support the protest against the proposed training of women to carry s out the State dental scheme. 1 The chairman, Mr. F. Castle, said he * hardly felt prepared to support the protest as the scheme might prove a beneficial 1 one for-all they knew. 3 The medical superintendent, Dr. Woodf house, said he was inclined to differ from > the chairman as he was of opinion that the 1 scheme would affect the hospitals. He j went as far as to say that it might deprive the Wellington Hospital of some thirty nurses as it offered a shorter course (two years compared with three at the hospitals), greater remuneration, and less work. Mr. J. W. McEwan said jthat though they had secured a number of 'probationers they were still short of their requirements. They stood the risk of the Government » Dental Department taking those who f would., probably take up hospital work. It was. agreed that the board was not prepared at the present juncture to support the. protest of the Otago Board.
