[BY TELECBAPH.—OWN COnEESFONDF-NT.] WHAKATANE. Wednesday. At a meeting of the Harbour Board the election of a chairman, deferred from the previous meeting, resulted in Mr. A. C. Sutherland being re-elected. It was decided to purchase Whale Island.' The sura of £500 was voted to the county memorial. At a meeting of Taneatua residents.-held to consider what attitude Taneatua would take in regard to the county memorial, some objection was raised as to the form of the memorial, and a suggestion was made to erect a local memorial. In view cf the fact that the matter had gone so far, however, it was decided to support the county scheme. Over £2000 is required for the memorial, and already about half that sum has been subscribed.
