<3~ BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH COUNCIL, The Birkenhead Borough Council met lael evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. P. McPhai!. Messrs. E. G. Skeates. A. Hsdfiold. P. C. Backhouse. J. R. McPhail. and S.' "Webb being present. j The council sanctioned an application {or i a picturo performance in til* Foresters' Hall on Christmas" Day, on condition that the 1 programme wr.a approved by the Mayor. The Crown solicitor intimated that the , transfer had been completed of Mr. F. Pinch's property, which had been purchaser! by the Government and councii as a- scenic reserve for Birkdalo. A request to allow a. 9ft. right-of-way' was , declined, the minimum width allowed by the by-law being 10ft. ' The district health officer. Dr. T. J. ■ Hughes, forwarded a resume of the provisions , of the now Public Health Act. pointing out th© duties and" powers of the council ther-?- ' under, especially in relation to the. control • and investigation of infectious diseases. It . was resolved to take advantage of the- oSer , of the district health'officer to arrange tor \ an officer of:the Health Department to undertake the duties of inspector in regard to i infectious diseases and sanitation on behaii' ; of the-borough, at a cost of .£42 per annum i i i. lt -r, M ' as resolved to request the owners of the Foresters' Hall to provide further mean* i ot tiro escape from the circle, and tc rjrevent | J overcrowding.
