j DRAMA AT KING'S THEATRE. The King's Theatre. Newton, will be reopened at the matin.<ve at 2.30 p.m. on Monday. Boxing Day. with a drama entitled "The Unmarried Mother," which will be produced under the direction of Messrs. Ben. and John Fuller. This will be the first time for the play to be staged in New Zealand. The" cast isl headed by Mv3a Nellie Bramley and Mr. George Cross. " The Unmarried Mother " was written for the stage by Florence Edna May and is founded on Gene Stratten Porter's widely-read bock, "The Harvester." The box plan is on view at Richardson's. Queen Street, and at Fmlay's, Pitt Street. Scats may also be reserved at the Opera House. FRANK HUTCHENS' RECITAL. The final recital to be given in Auckland ' by Mr. Frank Hutehens, the solo pianist and teacher from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, was held m the Town Hall concert chamber last evening. The proI gramme included Beethoven's " Sonata in C Major." Brahms' "Intermezzo in C Major.'' and three waltzes, " Op. 39," York , Bowen's "Scherzo," two " Etudea" from Chopin, and his " Waltz in A Flat Major," and " A Flat Ballade," Cyril Scott's " Paradise Birds." the " March© Mignonne " (Poldini), " Refrain de Berceau " (Palmgien), Debussy's " Jardins sous la Pliue " and his I " Prelude." Chopin's " Waltz in E Minor," " Presto from Sonata in B Minor " and " B Flat Minor Scherzo," and Alfred Hill's "' Bereeuse." BAND CONCERTS. The Auckland Waterside Workers' Silver Band will give a musical programme of Christmas carols and other items in the Albert Park to-morrow evening. On Christmas Night the silver band of the Salvation Army will render a programme of sacred music in the same park. THE FOX TRIO. The Fox Trio of instrumentalists will give two concerts in the Town Hall concert chamber next Monday and Tuesady evenings. The programmes will include violin and piano concertos, piano solos, trios for piano and strings, quartettes for strings, and a Quintette for piano and strings. Among the composers represented will be Haydn, Mendelssohn, Bruch. Schubert, Saint Saens. Tschaikowsky, Weiss and Liszt. The Fox 'Trio are Australian artists, and have paid several successful visits to New Zealand in East years. The box plans are open at ewis Eady's, Queen Street. OPEN-AIR CARNIVAL. An open-air carnival was opened at a , site opposite Rendells, Earangahape Road, yesterday afternoon, and was continued in the evening. A number of tents and booths had becm erected on an open space, ana crowds of people attended. . Admission was free. The attractions consisted mainly ot games of ringolette and shuttlecock, wherein those of keen eye and steady hand, anc . perhaps of a lucky weio aol< to win prizes of more or less value. Thert were also a number of side shows and refreshment stalls. Musical selections were , ' played by a band during the evening. A • ! large number of competitions had been ar ranged, but owing to the entries being oi insufficient number to ensure good pro grammes, they had to be abandoned.
