SALES OF WORK AND BAZAAR.
In spite of the inclement weather on Saturday, there was a good attendance at the bazaar and garden party in aid of the Takapuna Orphanage. Owing to the continual showers, many of the events were postponed till nest' Saturday. A pleasant afternoon was spent in the schoolrooms, where a number of songs were given by the orphanage boys. Mr. W. Blomfield gave a Maori haka" to the great amusement of those present. The proceeds during the afternoon, were satisfactory. The fixture will be continued today, and will conclude in the evening with a concert by the boys. - A successful Christmas lair, arranged by the girls' clubs of the Y.W.C.A., was held on Saturday. -Mrs. G. H. Wilson performed the opening ceremony. The entrance lounge was decorated with garlands of holly and fir, and a striking feature was a ChristHias tree ornamented with red lights, which was soon loaded with gifts for"orphans and the poor. Tea and strawberries and cream were served in the cafeteria, and a musical programme vas carried out. A sum of £115 was collected toward the Y.W.C.A. funds. A successful sale of work was held on Saturday afternoon at the Children's Home, 'Richmond Road. Mrs. U. F. Bennett, in opening the bazaar, referred to the good work carried on by the institution and the benefits derived by .«—e children associated with the home. Very good business was done during the afternoon, and about £180 was taken at the various stalls, where flowers, provisions, and a variety of handwork were sold.
