Australian and N.Z. Cable Association
(Reed. 11.5 p.m.) SANTIAGO (Chili), Doc. 11.
It is reported in diplomatic circles that Chili and Japan are verging on an incident of considerable gravity following a formal protest bv Japan because she was not invited to attend the celebration of the anniversarv of the discovery of the Straits of Magellan. The protest, it is stated, was made because, in view of Japan's importance ,in the Pacific, she feels the slight, keenly, especially as two other naval Powers — Britain and the United States—have been invited to commemorate the discovery of the straits.
