GREAT STORE OF EXPLOSIVES
UP-TO-DATE EQUIPMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received 7.30 p.m.) A El,d N ■?■■ LONDON. Dec. 11. The military raided a bicycle repair shop in Parnell Street. Dublin, and found sacks of gelignite, large quantities of ammunition, revolvers, and bombs in ■carious stages of manufacture. Three arrests were made. The shop was kept by Heron and Lawless. A factory occupied the whole basement, and contained a well-installed furnare and crucible ; also, electric machinery, four moulds holding freshly-cast bomb cases still warm, pattern mould-boxes and equipment, all up to date. Four bench vices wer e in use, and 400 hand bombs were found. The loading was done in a dangerous, haphazard manner. Bags of detonators were all «ver the place, and loose powder was scattered on the table. Cartridges of all kinds were mixed together in bags. Gelignite was lying about. A loaded revolver was within reach of each workman. The switchboard used in connection with an electric motor was installed by the Dublin Corporation. The finds include large bombs, also a new type of bomb containing a glass vessel or capsule, the contents of which are not known, and incomplete portions of an infernal machine.
Heron is a member of the Republican Brotherhood. He was interned after the 1916 rebellion. He organised the Irish Transport Workers' Union. Lawless is an extreme Sinn Feiner. He was deported in 1916, and sentenced after the rebellion to 10 years' penal servitude. He was arrested last week.
