■WELLINGTON-. Saturday. j Reporting on the London wool s?.lm J vinder date December 8 the. High Commissioner cables as follows :—" Th-} wool sales commenced yesterday. There was a I large attendance from all parts. Comj petition was unsatisfactory. A large proj portion of the Merinos and fine crossbreds catalogued were withdrawn without bids. . Medium crossbreds had fair bidding, and I a few superior lots were sold at uni changed price (viz.. Is to Is 4d per lb.). | Buyers are purchasing to satisfy urgent I requirements, and paid the Government i limit, irrespective of market value, which, in many cases, was lower. New Zealand wools in the first day's catalogue included 2073 bales, mostly slipes and scoured, which met with a poor demand. "Average prices are :—6o's to &Vs, Merino, Is lOd to 2s 6d per lb. ; 50's to 56's, half-bred, Is 5d to 2s per lb. ; 47's, j fine crossbred, is 3d to 1° 5d per lb. j Others neglected. No quotations. "This week's offerings consist of AusI trab'an. Merino, greasy 13,050 bales, scoured 3650 bales; crossbreds. greasy 2950 bales, scoured 750 bales. New Zealand crossbreds, greasv 1900 bales, scoured 2350 bales, sliped 1700."
