SHORTAGE OF SUGAR.
FRUIT PRESERVING IN DANGER.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. J CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. Anxiety that fruit preserving might again be prevented this season because of a shortage of sugar was expressed by Mr. J. Langton, president of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation, at a meeting of the Canterbury Fruitgrowers' Association last night. The federation, said Mr. Langton, had been trying to get supplies for this season, but so far had not met with much success. He declared that under present conditions sugar was being hoarded at the expense of the whole fruit industry. The matter was so urgent that, unless somethin? was done at once, another season would be lost. It was decided to again communicate with Mr. Massey on the subject.
