CARTER THE GREAT. Final performances will be given to-day by ! Carter the Great, whose stay in Auckland '< has been responsible for large audiences at j His Majesty's Theatre. A special matinee this afternoon should attract many children, i the feeding of Mr. Carter's lion being a ! feature at the close of the entertainment. The usual evening performance will also be given. KING'S THEATRE. NEWTON. Messrs. Ben. and John Fuller announce the opening of the King's Theatre, Newton, with a season of drama, commencing at a matinee on Boxing Day, December 27. The opening play will be " The Unmarried Mother." which is said to be a. powerful drama. Messrs. Fuller are not sparing any expense to make the opening of the theatre a success. The policy of the theatre will be one of weekly changes, eo that '* The Unmarried Mother" will be staged for five nights and one matinee only The company will be headed by Mies Nellie Bramley and George Cross, and is stated to be one of the strongest combinations that has ever visited Auckland. PIANOFORTE RECITALS. Pianoforte recitals will be given by Mr. Frank Hutchens, of the staff of the Sydney Conservatoriuru of Music, in the Town Hall concert chamber next Saturday, and on the following Monday and Wednesday. At the Saturday's recital, the opening solo will be played with the pianist screened, then repeated with the player visible, the audience voting as to whether the music is heard to better advantage when the performer, is seen or not. The box plan will open at Richardson's next week. VAUDEVILLE AND PICTURES. _ The management of the Hippodrome Theatre announce that a combined vaudeville and picture programme will be presented at the theatre, commencing next Saturday. The vaudeville programme will be headed by a thought-reading demonstration by Argus, a 10-year-old prodigy, who has been engaged upon a lengthy season in the Southern centres of the Dominion. Argrifl is said to give. a surprising exposition of clairvoyant powers, enumerating, while blindfold, a variety of articles belonging to the audience, including coins, bank notes, and curios, giving the numbers, dates, value, and origin. He also states the nature of questions written on pieces of paper by members of the audience. A free demonstration will be given by Argus next 'Saturday at noon, when the public are invited to test his powers. The new programme will be presented at three sessions daily, and the performance of Argus will be supported by the Campbell Brothers, concertina artists; Miss Anita Green, soprano; Louis Alsace, musician; and Marie Green. pianist The box plan for the season is now open at Lewis Eady's, Queen Street. BAND CONCERTS. A band concert will be given in the Outer Domain to-morrow afternoon by the Garrison Artillery Band, a variedpTogramme having been arranged. The (Waterside Silver Band will also provide a musical programme at Point Erin Park to-morrow afternoon.
