RECLAMATION PROPOSAL.
STRONG OPPOSITION LIKELY.
EFFECT ON JUDGE'S BAY BEACH.
The reclamation of Judge's Bay, on which the, Parnell Park fronts, was the subject of some remarks yesterday by the chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, Mr. H. D. Heather. He said the proposal of the Public Works Department was that an area of 13,025 ft. by 350 ft., or approximately 10£ acres, outside the Railway Department's area should be reclaimed. The Public Works Department had stated that " this was essential in order rtj> provide ample storage room, accessible "by water as well as by road., arid"railway. ' '* ;' , /'Mr.' Heather said the agreement in existence between the Railway Department and the City Council was when the railway line was constructed across Judge's Bay provision would be made for culverts with sluice gates for ingress and egress of water. The present proposal, if carried into effect, would immediately do away with such an arrangement. As Parnell Park joined Judge's Bav and was agreat resort for children,, "the proposal would without doubt meet strong opposition, in which he was sure the board would join. " The beach would be spoiled for the purpose for which it was now used, and it was the only remaining sandy beach on this side of the harbour to the east of Queen's Wharf.
