PUBLIC WORKS SCHEME.

EFFECT ON PARNELL PARK.

The reclamation of about ten acres of land in the vicinity of Campbell's Point and its effect upon the Parnell Park and the beach at Judge's Bay was the subject of discussion by. the Auckland Harbour Board yesteiday.

The matter came before the board in the form of an application from the Public Works Department for permission to utilise an area of about 10£ acres of land east of Campbell's Point. The department asked if the board would be prepared to reclaim this area and, if so, at what price.

The chairman said that as this was an important matter, , not, only to the board, but also to the citizens of Auckland, he would move, that the application be referred _to the board-in-committee. and that the City Council be communicated with. Mr. W. Wallace seconded the motion. He ' -said that if, this •, application were granted it might be that the Parnell Park would be detrimentally affected. There was no more popular, park'in the city than this. Recently he had seen '30 or "40 " launches upon the little beach in Judges x>vf. Before anything was done to spoil this favourite resort the people of the city generally and the residents of Parnell in particular should be made acquainted with the department's proposal. Mr. A. J. Entrican said that if the board allowed the Government to reclaim the area specified'it would probably be parting with the water frontage in Judge's Bay. : The motion was carried unanimously. \
