CHORAL FESTIVAL. Music lovers will be interested in the announcement that a choral festival will be held by the Auckland Choral Society in the Town Hall, on Tuesday, December 14, when the " Messiah" will be given, and on Thursday. December 16. when the society will present " Elijah." The " principal soloists will be Miss Amy Evans and Mr. Fraser Gange. the gifted singers who made such a great impression when in Auckland. Two performances of the " Messiah" in Dunedin aroused the greatest enthusiasm, the receipts from the record houses producing oiTer £700. The box* plan is now open at the Richardson Piano Company, Ltd., Queen Street. STUDENTS' RECITAL. A vocal and musical recital by the students of Mr. Walter Impett will be given in the Town Hall concert chamber on Saturday evening at 8 o'clock. The programme is comprehensive and varied, and promises to be of exceptional merit. Many of the students have already gained excellent reputations in the musical world, while others chow promise of attaining distinction. An interesting feature will be a pianoforte duet, "Norwegian Artists' Carnival" (Svendsen), by Miss Marjorie Arey and Mr. Walter Impett. The piece embodies a representation of the conflicting elements associated with a scene of wild revelry, and toward the close a cleverlydevised harmonious combat between two distinct subjects is introduced. Among the performers are Mrs. J. J. Hoare. Misses A. Bainbridge, V. Lambert, D. Bagnall, E. Stephens, M. Arey. W. Slattery. L. Walker. T. Hyde. E. Rankin. . I. McCarthy V. Dunnet. A. Fletcher I. Walker. R. Thorr.ae. and M. Crook, and Messrs. G. Slattery. D. Cattanach, P. Martin. K Impett, and T. Mortimer. Mr. W. Impett will preside at the piano. The box plan is at Lewis Eady's. Queen Street, and reserved seat tickets may also be obtained at Wildman and Arey's. CAROL CONCERT. The Auckland Municipal Choir will give a carol concert in the Town Hall on Saturday evening next. The choir will sing Mendelssohn's '' 43rd Psalm " and the "Hallelujah Chorus," and organ solos will be given by the city organist. Mr. Maughan Barnett. Mr. E. Randal will accompany the choir. CHRISTMAS SONG RECITAL. A 6ong recital in aid of Sister Esther's Christlmas cheer fund will be given by Madame Bella Russell and her ladies' choir in the Town Hall concert chamber on Monday, December 13. MOVING PICTURE TRAVELOGUE*.

The second travelogue lecture given in Auckland by Miss Louise Mack was delivered to a crowded house in the Tivoli Theatre yesterday afternoon. 'The lecturer feelingly described her meeitng with Edith Cavell in Brussels at the old cathedral of St. Gudule. a picture of which was afterwards thrown on the screen. The moving: pictures adequately displayed the exquisite scenery of the Italian lakes, the Mediterranean towns, Rome in all her pomp. Moscow, North America, and Holland. Several members of the Education . Board were present. The hundreds of chilj dren present displayed great interest in the I pictures, and .during the shoeing of British ■ marines arriving at Antwerp they sang i "Rule. Britannia." The third travelogue of I the 6eries will be shown to-morrow at 330 I o'clock in the Tivoli Theatre. j COMBINED RECITAL. j A comprehensive musical programme will .be presented by Miss Mina Caldow, Miss Evelyn Wymsn. Mr. Barry and Mr. I Eric Waters at the Town Hall concert chamI ber this evening. Miss Caldow's items will . include the. aria. "O Mio Fernando" and i 'Love's -Philosophy," and in conjunction with ] Mr. Coney ehe 'will sing Liza Lehmann's I song cycle, "Love and Spring." This work J is being sung for the first time in New Zealand. Mr. Coney's numbers cover a wide ! range, among *, hem being "When Thy Blue ; •byes. "None but an Aching Heart," and ; Onaway. Awake. Beloved." Miss Wyman , will play several of Pa-lmgren's compositions ! and Brahm's Rhapsodic op. 119.
