MAORI GIRLS' TRAINING.
METHODIST CHURCH SCHEME
DOMESTIC SCIENCE AND HEALTH.
A scheme for the training of Maori girls in domestic science, home nursing, and hygiene was proposed at the Auckland District Methodist Synod yesterday. The Rev. A. J. Seamer, superintendent of Maori work, said there was no intention of trying to Europeanise the girls, but merely to teach them the things that made for a higher life. Good .work had been done among the boys at the Three Kings College, but the Church had been neglecting the young women and girls. The proposal was for the establishment of an institution, for which a fund would have to be raised. It was decided, after some discussion, to recommend' that the fund which is to be raised for the Methodist centenary celebrations in 1922 be increased from £40,000 to £43,000,. to enable the allocation of £3000 to be made toward the establishment of a training home as suggested. It was stated that the Maoris had undertaken to raise another £2000. The Native Mission Committee was charged with the drawing up of a detailed scheme for presentation to the coming Methodist conference in Wellington.
