POINT CHEVALIER DISTRICT.
QUESTION OF DRAINAGE. The lack of a proper drainage system in the Point Chevalier district, and the consequent menace to the city water supply, was referred to by the Point Chevalier Commission as one reason in favour of the suburb's amalgamation with the city. The Mayor, Mr. J. H. Gunson, in discussing the matter yesterday, said there was no reason to question the purity of the supply at present. The City Council was fully alive to its obligations, and nothing would be done which was likely to imperil the public health. If Point Chevalier came into the city the first work undertaken in that district would be drainage.
