BOATS ON THE STOCKS.

BUSY TIME FOR BUILDERS.

LORD JELLICOE'S YACHT.

The call of the sea becomes stronger as the summer advances, and the thoughts of yachtsmen are ever with their craft. The boatbuilding and repair yards are at present exceptionally busy in making preparations for the aquatic season. Alterations are the chief work because of the restrictions imposed on the building of pleasure boats. A great deal of commercial work is in progress, however.

■ One of the pleasure boats being built is a small racing yacht of the one-design class, to the order of the GovernorGeneral, Lord Jelticoe. His Excellency intends to have a larger yacht built for next season. Other ys?nts for private people are expected to be ready before Christmas. A few motor-launches are on the stocks, including a 14-knot and an 18knot boat.

The principal item in commercial work is the building of a new ferry boat for the Devonport Steam Ferry Company. The boat will be 130 ft. long, with a beam of 55ft., and a draught of 9ft. 6in., and is expected to be completed early in the new year. A 42-ft. cutter has been built for the copra trade in the islands, and will leave for Samoa this morning. Another cutter for the same destination is nearly finished. Several motor-launches for passenger work are nearing completion, and one to the order of a Christchurcb buyer will be despatched immediately.
