TAUMARUNUI. Wednesday. The Borough Council at a meeting last night received Messrs. Hay and Vicksrman's report on tho four h\dro-e!ectrie power and lighting schemes. It was resolved to adopt the Wanganni R, ver Number 1 proposal, to cost £44,000. \ poll of ratepayers will be taken at the | earliest possible moment. j The site is situated half-a-mile below ! Piriaka. The borough's interests can bo , best served by this scheme, but it can also be made to serve Manunui. Piriaka, j and Kakahi until the Government supply jis available. The engineer? expressed an opinion in favour of the borough schema | as against the larger one in the Whaka- | papa River, which would require a power ! board and would cover parts of the j country not payable at present. Members jof the council considered it would he i easier to raise money for the local schema i than for the larger one. j The Taumarunui Chamber of Commerce | wrote to the council to the effect thai I a meeting of local authorities was beat" i called to consider the formation of a power I board for a comprehensive scheme for the I whole district. The council deeded to j send a delegate to explain its position.
