WATERSIDERS' WAGES.
AN INCREASE WANTED.
CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON. JET TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Wednesday. Representatives of the waterside workers and of the shipping companies and employers of labour on the wharves met in Wellington to-day to consider a suggestion made by the union for an increase in wages. The watersiders have not made any specific demand, but . have suggested that the rates of pay fixed by the agreement made earlier in the year ought to be reviewed in view of the increase in the cost of living. No definite decision has yet been and ' the conference will meet again. The existing agreement which embodied substantial increases in pay took effect from February 5 last. The term of the agreement was defined as follows: — This agreement shall come into - force from the date on which the New Zealand Waterside Workers' Federation notifies that it hap been accepted by the unions concerned and shall remain in force until December 31, 1521."
