THEFT OF LADY'S OVERCOAT. YOUNG GIRL ADMITS OFFENCE. theft of a lady's overcoat, valued at £3 15s, was admitted by a girl, aged 16, who appeared before Mr. W. R. Mc- • Kean, S.M., in the Police Court yeft-er-day. Detective Lambert stated that when he ; arrested accused she admitted having taken the coat from a house in Parnell ■where she had been lodging. She was wearing the coat at the time. ChiefDetective MeMahon said the girl needed to be kept under control, but she had never previously been before the Court. He suggested a long period of probation. The magistrate adjourned the case for six months, and ordered the girl to report to Adjutant Gordon, of the Salvation Army, once a week during that period. CHINESE SELLS UNSOUND FRUIT. A Chinese fruiterer, Kwong Hop Gang, denied haying sold, unsound fruit to Wal- • ter Harold Williams on September 12. Tho [ evidence showed that defendant kept a ! shop in Victoria Street. Williams, a youth, visited the shop, ordered two bags J of bananas and then went to another t shop. When he returned he took the bags aWay, and when they were opened it was • ' found that the bananas were decomposed ' and quite unfit for human consumption. I Defendant had given 43 banana* for 6<i. A constable visited the shop later and could find no other bananas. Defendant, 1 through an interpreter, said he had two I classes of bananas, and was asked for the cheaper of the two. The bananas were . verp ripe and small, but good. „ Defendant 1 &as fined £3, with costs £2 lis. DAZZLING HEADLIGHTS. Five motorist were each fined 10s and costs for after sunset with headlights of a dazzling brilliancy.
