LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS.

COUNTY POLLING TO-MORROW INTERESTING CONTESTS. The triennial election of county councils throughout the Dominion will take place to-morrow. Special interest attaches to the Waitemata County elections in view of the fact that the Wainui, Takapuna, Birkenhead, j Kaukapakapa and Pukeatua ridings are proposed by the Akarana League to be i included in the new county advocated by that body. In the Wainui riding Mr. T. M. Burns, a member of the league, is contesting the seat with the sitting member, Mr. A. J. Hatfield, and in the Takapuna riding Mr. E. Davis, a league member, is con- i testing the Birkenhead seat with the tit I ting ex-member, Mr. H. Day, and two I new candidates, Mr. T. E. Davison and ' Mr. W. Escott, a league member, are j seeking election for Pukeatua. The! member for Kaukapakapa is Mr. A. E. I Diprose, who was returned unopposed. Inthe Titirangi riding the seat now held by ! Mr. A. M. Laing is being contested by j Mr. A. Thompson and two new candi- I dates, Messrs. A. H. Dillon and D. McDonald, are standing for the Kumeu ! seat. In the Mairetahi riding the present ! chairman, Mr. H. Aitkenhead is opposed by a former member, Mr. J. McLeod, : while the sitting member in the Waita- j kere riding is defending the seat against I Mr. A. R. Sinton, and Mr. W. Oliphant, I sitting member for the Waipareira riding! has as opponent a former member, Mr. I J. Greenwood. Mr. P. Theet was returned , unopposed for the Waikumete riding. ! For the Manukau County the only con- { tested seats are those in the Turania and Wairoa ridings. In the iormer the sitting member, Mr. F. H. Brownhill, i 3 opposed , by Mr. F. Granger, and in the W.vroa riding the two vacancies are borag ccn- ' tested by the present chairman. Mr. A. D. { Bell, and the sitting member, Mr. J. Luke, j against Messrs. S. A. Browne and F. j Kearsley. Six seats on the Franklin Council are: contested. The candidates for the Awhitu' riding are Messrs. W. G. Hamilton and I H. O. Mellsop. for the Dnirv seat Messrs j J. R. Lowry and J. Walker, and for the ! J? u "„« at Messrs. G. W. Heald and R. B. Milne. Messrs. E. C. Cuff and H. 1 Dell contest the Mauku seat, and Mr. J. Keith defends the Mercer seat against Mr J. Dean. For the vacancy in the - ! kobe est riding the candidates are the ' sitting member Mr. T. W. Woods, and Messrs. W. T. Dazeley and J.
