ALLEGED EXCHANGE SYSTEM.

THREE CHARGES OP RECEIVING. j Sreven "men and a •woman, who are alleged by the police to be implicated in a system of the exchange of stolen appeared before Mr. J. W. Pbynton, S.M., at the Police Court on Saturday morning, and ■were remanded on bail until next Friday. As a result of complaints received from the proprietor of a clothing establishment, Detective-Sergeant Issel, of tho Newton police, assisted by Detectives Knight and O'Brien, of the city police, investigated the case, and * arrested the accused. Some of*the charges are for offences alleged to have been committed several months ago. The accused are:—Ernest Lister, aged 33, charged with the theft of a pair of boots, the property of Hannah and Company, boot merchants; Julia Lister, aged 28, "wife of Ernest Lister, charged, with having received, between January and October, a quantity of clothing, valued at £50; Ivan John Henry Wheaton, aged 17, charged with the theft of a pair of trousers, two hats, and three collars, from G. Tutt, of Symonds Street; Albert Louis Lewis, aged 20, charged with having received clothing, the property of G. Tutt; Lancelot Edward Marshall, aged 23, charged with the theft of two shirts, and a tie from G. Tutt; Tracey Edward Ashley, aged 22, charged with the theft of a pair of trousers from G. Tutt; Frances William Corbett, aged 32, charged with the theft of clothing Jrcm G. Tutt; Edward George Lowe, aged 42, late billiard saloon keeper, charged with having received goods from Ashley, at G. Tutt's shop. It is alleged that Lifter stole boots from his employers, and that his wife exchanged them for goods stolen by others of the accused.
