EDUCATION BOARD'S DIFFICULTY. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCEURCH. Saturday. The new cost-of-living bonus was referred to at a meeting of the Canterbury Education Board to-day, the chairman stating that the financial provision of the board was becoming increasingly serious The board was £23,000 to the bad, and the bank overdraft was £11,000. Against Jl OVe ££ raffc the y had deposits of ±,8000. They were going back every month, their maintenance accounts being very heavy. Material was expensive, and wages were going up. He was sorry to say so, but the new wages bonus would compel the board to consider seriously the question of reducing its staff. All local bodies would have to consider that.
