MOTOR-CAR CAPSIZES.
ACCIDENT NEAR HAMILTON.
SEVERAL PEOPLE INJURED. TWO TAKEN TO HOSPITAL. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN" CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Sunday. As the result of a motor-car capsizing on the Cambridge road this afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. W. Gruar, of Bryce Street, Hamilton, are now in a private hospital suffering from serious injuries. Mr. Gruar, in company with his wife, bis daughter-in-law, Mrs. Frederick W. Gruar, - his grandson, aged three years, Mrs. McElwee, of Hamilton, and Mrs. Wilson, of Westport, was driving toward Cambridge, and when near Tamahera, the stearing gear of the car suddenly failed. After making several swerves the car, which was travelling at about 20 miles an hour, ran into some logs and turned completely over. All the passengers were thrown clear of the car, except Mr. and Mrs. Gruar, who -were pinned underneath. The car, an exceptionally heavy one, was lifted by parsing motorists, and Mr. Gruar and his wife were found to be unconscious and seriously injured. Doctors Martin and Easdale, who were just behind when the accident happened, rendered first aid. Mrs. Wilson, who is the mother of Mr. A. A. Wilson, solicitor, of Westport, and who is 71 years old, was found to be suffering from injuries to the head and also from shock. She was taken to Hamilton in an unconscious" condition, but her injuries are not regarded as serious. Mrs. McElwee received a slight injury to one arm, and is suffering from shock. Mrs. F. W. Gruar is also suffering slightly from shock, while the child escaped injury. f Upon inquiry at the hospital to-nigh*; it was stated that Mr. Gruar was suffering from severe body injuries, and Mrs! Gruar from severe injuries to head and chest, the condition of both being serious. Mr. Gruar is a prominent Hamilton business man, and a member of the Borough Council. FALL OP 25 FEET INTO RIVER. DRIVER ESCAPES INJURY. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAURANGA. Saturday. A perilous experience befel Mr. Fletcher while motoring from Tauranga to the Waikato to-day. His car skidded on the hill near Ivy Bridge in the Tauriko district and fell down an incline of about 25ft. into the Wairoa River. A Maori, who saw the accident, threw a rope to Mr. Fletcher who managed to reach the shore safely and without having* sustained injury. The car lies in about 14ft. of water. j
