N.S.W. RIFLE MEETING.
KING'S PRIZE OPENS. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Oct. 27. The first stage of the King's prize, at the New South Wales rifle meeting saw a record entry of 945 marksmen. Despite a tricky wind, variable and light, the shooting was good, a fair number of possibles being made on the respective I ranges of three, five, and six hundred jSyards. The winner of the first leg was Searle (Victoria), with a score of ICS. Masefield (New Zealand) got every shot home at 500 yards, and led at 600 with 33 out of 35, but could not ho-!d the bull. Searle, the winner, put on two 34s at 500 and 600, and added another at the nest range, bringing his total to 102 out of 105. Roots scored 99, and wen £o. 1 Masefield. 98, won £4 in conjunction with the first stage of the King's prize. A twelve aside match was fired, in which the New Zealand team beat SydI ney by 1122 to 1121.
