NEW MINISTER'S POLICY. MEETINGS OF PROTEST HELD.. [BT TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] STKATFORD. Thursday. , A- representative public meeting, and also a meeting of the Stratford Railway League, passed resolutions strongly protesting against the proposal outlined by the Minister far Public Works in the Public Works Statement to stop all work on the Stratford end of the Stratford Okahufeura railway, when completed to Tahora, it being considered that this proposal is at complete variance with the avowed intention of the Minister to speed up completion of all r.iain lines. At a special meeting of the Taranabi Progress League this morning a resolution was passed expressing grave concern and emphatically protesting against tho proposed discontinuance of -frork on the west end of the Stratford-Okahukura line. The league also asked an assurance from the. Prime Minister and the Minister for Public Works that the retrograde step of discontinuing work at Tahora will not be taken. A further resolution calls on the Government to vote a sum adequate to complete the whole of the work at the Mount Egmont quarries.
