PRIMAGE DUTY MAY GO. PRIME MINISTER'S HOPES. [bt telegraph.—special reporter] WELLINGTON", Tniirsday. An indication of his effort to reduce taxation was given in the House to-night by the Prime Minister. He taid that a clause was to be inserted in the Appropriation Bill to enable him as t-easurer tc. reduce taxation. He could not guarantee that it could be done. Al. wouid depend upon the course of events between now and the end of the year. The first thing to be done in that event be to remove the primage duty. This was the first time? he had mentioned tha matter.
Pressed, for further details, Mr. Massey said he could tell the House no more at present. He had his own "idta.s abouS the matter, and had told his colleagues of them.
