RAILWAY FLOODED.
TRAFFIC - DISORGANISED. A BREAK NEAR LEVIN. TRANSFER OF PASSENGERS. [BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] LEVIN. Thursday. All north and south traffic on the Manawatu line is disorganised owing to flood water covering the permanent way between Shannon and Koputaroa. Six expresses, Auckland, New Plymouth, and Napier (north and south), each spent the greater part of the day at Shannon and Levin. Fortunately the road remained passable, and passengers transferred by motor-car from Shannon to Levin both ways.
The South-bound Main Trunk passengers left Levin for Wellington about five o'clock, six hours late. The transferring of passengers was still in progress to-night. There is no "indication as to when through traffic will be possible. Five inches of rain have fallen during the past three days.
Owing to the floods between Shannon and Koputaroa the Railway Department yesterday would not book passengers for stations beyond the flooded section. The Main Trpnk express last evening was fairly well patronised, however, people desiring to go to Wellington taking the risk of being delayed.
