VERY COED WEATHER.
SHARP FROST YESTERDAY.
SOUTHERLY GALE DELAYS SHIPS.
The weather in Auckland has been fine, but exceptionally cold!, since Saturday, and yesterday morning there was a sharp frost, the ground being quite white in several of the suburbs and in some parts of the city.
A southerly gale, however, is blowing at sea, and is delaying shipping. The Mokoia, which was due at Auckland on Saturday from Suva, met with a heavy southerly gale and did not arrive until shortly before one o'clock this morning. The Monowai, from Dnnedin, via ports, and the Arahura, from Gisborne, have both been delayed by bad weather, and will not arrive until this morning.
The _ Northern Company's steamer Apanui, which had been delayed? on the coast since Friday, owing to the galei, reached port early yesterday morning. The Clansman, Kanieri, and Claymore were all late in arriving here on Saturday from various coastal ports. The following forecast was issued by Mr. Clement L. Wragge at 8 p.m. yesterday :The disturbance Zathil having crossed New Zealand rapidly has now passed away on an easterly course into west longitude, and the barometer has risen steadily in its rear. Therefore generally fine weather, with areas of cloud, will now prevail in most parts of the Dominion. Genial days and very cold nights, with inland frosts. Winds light and variable, chiefly from between south-south-west and south-east. Sea further moderating along the east coast, and moderate to smooth elsewhere.
