| UNDER LEAGUE RULES, ■ AUCKLAND ,V. SOUTHERNERS., j THE WISES OUTCLASSED. HOME TEAM WINS BY 54 POINTS. f The match arranged by the council of the New Zealand Rugby League between Auckland and a team representing Southern Leagues, which was postponed on Saturday last on account of unfavourable weather, was played yesterday afternoon at the Domain, and resulted in a win for Auckland by 54 joints to 0. Steady tain, began to fall just before the match started and continued for the greater portion of the game. In consequence tho ground was very slippery at the commencement, and became very muddy as the match progressed, Despite the rain there was a largo attendance of spectators.

The Southerners appeared to hold their own in the forwards during tho early stages, but their backs were tot to be compared with tho Auckland rearguard. The creasy nature of tho ball and round did not seem to make much difference to the Auckland backs' tsndling of the ball, and as a result the spectators were treated to some iine passing bouts, which completely disorganised tho opposition. The Southern backs made very leeble efforts at combined play, and seemed unable to hold the ball, while the Aockiacdcrs threw it about in great style. In the second spell the Southern team played better, especially in loose dribbliug rushes, while their tickling was much more solid than in tho opening half. The Southern team kicked off. but a loose rush by the Auckland forwards carriod the ball to the visitors' twenty-five. A scrum followed, the ball going out to Woolley, who slipped a few yards from the line, thus losing a certain try. Auckland continued to attack but Sanders relieved by a good kick, and play settled in mid-field.
