CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.
The C:t v School 1 Committee met last evening, Mr. G. Pardington presiding. A letter of resignation was received from Mr. W. J. Gatenby, first assistant-master at Bert-.'orG Street, school, who is entering the • gal profession. The committee earned a insolation wishing Mr. Gatenby every success. As ii result or a visit paid by the committee to the Napier Street, Iselson Street, and Ueresford Street school.', discuslion ensued regarding the necessity of improving the conditions of the city schools. A resolution was passed again impressing upon the Education Board the urgent necessity of build, better schools nnd laying cut Urg-jr playgrounds,- as the existing conditions were " e, menace to the health of the children and teachers and a disgrace to civilisation " Copic3 of the resolution are to be forwarded to the Minister for Education, the Hen. C. J. Parr, and Auckland members ;f Parliament. It was decided to hold a special meeting next Tuesday to formulate demands to be presented to the toucation Board, and to appoint delegates to present the demands to the Minister for Education. The secretary, Mr. 0. Mcßrine, was granted three months' leave of absence owing to his departure on a visit to Australia.
