TOO EXUBERANT CROWDS.
BUSY DAYS IN MELBOURNE.
A COUGH CONTRACTED. By Telegraph—Press Association— • (Received 12.30 a.m.) A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE, May 30. The Prince of Wales attended' a special show at the Agricultural Grounds yesterday, at which 50,000 people were present. Later, 'en route to the Lord Mayor's ball, he called on a representative gathering of journalists at the Grand Hotel, where he said that he was issuing an appeal to the people not to crowd hin as they had, been doing. They would, thus mako his tour much happier. ( The Renown was thrown open to the public, and was vis.ted by thousands. The crash was so great that many women fainted, and the tents of the naval guard on the beach were converted into first-aid depots. On Friday morning the Prince, on the destroyer Franklin, inspected the fleetThe review, from the point of view o l the assembled crowds ashore, was a failure, as owing to the thick fog only dim outlines of the vessels were visible. The weather is now bitterly cold, with a thick white frost. ■ The fog affected <h* Prince, who is troubled with a deep cough. • . Mounted police have been dispensed with ,in connection with the visit, as His Royal Highness considers the people might be injured by horses among the-crowd. At the' Exhibition Building on Friday afternoon a people's reception was held, the Prince being greeted by 14,000. Sir Wra. Irvine, Lieutenant-Governor, gave a dinner to the Prince at Government House in tho evening. The Prince afterwards attended the Victorian Government's official reception. .
