AITACK ON BARRACKS.

GALLANT POLICE DEFENCE. FOUR HUNDRED ASSAILANTS. I By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received 5.30 p.m.) A. and N.Z. LONDON. May 29. A' desperate night attack was made on the Kilmallock police barracks, County Limerick, The tiny garrison held out lor five hours against 400 assailant* until the barracks caught fire and were burned to the ground. Two of the police defenders were burned to death. Another policeman was dangerously -wounded. It. I/i believed that two Sinn Feincrs were killed ard others wounded, but details are lacking;, as Kilmallock is isolated owing to the telephone and telegraph wires having been cut and railway lines torn up. Communication with Kilmallock has not yet been restored. Excitement in the district is intense. Other barracks' have been attacked and burned. All the members of the garrison at ■ Kilmaliock were wounded before the building was set on lire by throwing petrol on the' roof. A gruesome discovery was made at tho Limerick railway junction, a fireman find jog a human heart impaled on the engine of the mail train. It is oelieved that a gruesome joke was intended, as a search of the railway line has not revealed any evidence of an accident. The troopship Tsaritsa disembarked 1000 Cameron Highlanders at Queenstown.. The crew of the Government tug struck work, refusing' to discharge ammunition from the Tsaritsa. '
