A house owned by the Meat Export Company, and occupied by Mr. and Mrs. ; Horan, was totally destroyed by fire be-! tween eight and nine o'clock last night. I It appears that Mr. Horan was away' at a smoke concert at the lime. His: wife remained at home, and went to bed. ' Passengers in a taxi cab proceeding to the; smoke concert from Hamilton, on passing i the house, noticed that it was on fire. ' They broke open a window at the back, ! entered the house, and finding Mrs. Horan as'eep, awakened her and carried her out just in time. The house and | contents were completely destroyed. The j gale which was raging at the time caused the flames to spread with great rapidity. The house was not insured, and there was only a small insurance on the furniturf. Mrs. Horan is suffering from shock. One of her rescuers had his hand severely 1 cut. when getting through the window.
