THE RAILWAY DISTTE.
CLAIMS OF THE A.S.R.S.
SUCCESSFUL CONFERENCE.
AGREEMENT FOR MTJF'CATTOIt
The Conciliation Comiii'lee, of which Mr. G. H. Bullock vas chairman, has .concluded its examination of feh<" diaput* between the Au.mj/.mai.fc'J Sniffy of Railway Servants <\"d the management of the New Zealand Railways. On Friday morning the commit'.ee reported to the Government that it haci "mne to a complete settlement on all points in dilute, and that the agreement had been unanimous. No details aro available as to the terms of settlement.
The chief claim *f" the railwaymen was for an -round irfcreast; in pay of 2s 6d por day. There were other demands which also would have involved heavy increased expenditure. It seems probable, says a Wellington paper., that the settlement will prove to have been a compromise, arrived at by both sides making concessions.
It has been decided that no anno- - ment of the terms will he made unt,< a! - the other sections of tho dispute have been dealt with—those in which the locomotive men's society and the Railway Officers' Institute arc' concerned. One or other of these disputes will come up for hearing as soon as possible. Secrecy can never bo kept, however, because the terms of the agreement have to be referred to the members of the A.S.R.S. for ratification before they can be adopted, and this means that the" terms will have to be disclosed to too men of the service at once. THE LOCOMOTIVE" TRIBUNAL. MEETING THIS WEEK* [bt telegraph.— press association.] WELLINGTON, Saturday. The tribunal which, will consider the claims of the locomotive branch of the railway service will probably sit next Wednesday. Mr" J. T. Martin replaces Mr. W. D. Hunt on the tribunal.
